Description
- Preparing patients for dental examinations; experience in maxillofacial prosthodontics is an absolute must
- Assisting the prosthodontist during examinations and full mouth prosthodontic rehabilitative and general dental procedures, including: dental implants, dental bridges, dental crowns, dental veneers, endodontics, orthodontics/ Invisalign, oral hygiene, periodontics, pinhole surgery, restorative dentistry, sedation dentistry, and tooth extractions;
- Taking dental impressions, applying fluoride treatments, pouring models, mixing dental materials, placing temporary restorations, polishing teeth, applying dental sealants, and applying topical anesthetics;
- Explaining treatments and issues concerning oral hygiene to patients;
- Supporting, comforting, and educating patients;
- Sterilizing and maintaining instruments and equipment;
- Preparing dental instruments, fillings, compounds and various dental materials;
- Conducting impression trimmings, dental dam applications, and infection control procedures;
- Taking and developing X-rays;
- Providing emergency support;
- Performing clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, billing and insurance, and ordering supplies; and
- Collaborating with other team members
Qualifications
• Completion of an eight-month to one-year college or other program in dental assistance is required
• 5+ years of experience as a dental assistant is required
• Experience assisting with prosthodontic procedures and oral surgeries is required
• Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (NDAEB) is required to perform intra-oral duties
• Registration with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association is required
• Must be proficient in using all parts and pieces of the Nobel Biocare and Straumann implant systems
• Must be proficient and confident in performing Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthodontic procedures for patients following tumor resection
