Over half of North Americans are estimated to have periodontal disease, though this likely underrepresents its true prevalence. Accurate diagnosis by the entire dental team is essential to prevent supervised neglect. Clear communication about the disease, risks, and treatment is crucial for patient understanding and acceptance. This lecture explores the new periodontal classification system, its role in patient care, and the link between oral and systemic health. Key topics include disease management, regeneration, mucogingival therapy, and clinical applications to enhance outcomes and improve case acceptance in modern practice.

This course, designed for dentists and hygienists, emphasizes disease prevention and updated maintenance protocols, highlighting the key differences between natural teeth and implants.
