Improving Oral Health Means Better Education, Job Seeking

Toronto, ON Ontario dentists and the Wynne government agree that publicly funded dental services are proven tools in the fight against poverty[i]. As frontline care providers, Ontarios dentists know how important it is that Ontarios low income families receive high-quality dental services. Dental services, including preventive care and treatment, reduce barriers to work and education. To this end, 50 Ontario Dental Association (ODA) member dentists are at Queens Park this week to make sure all parties know how important it is that the Wynne government deliver on promises to low-income Ontario children and youth.

Ontario’s Dentists: Community water fluoridation is safe, effective in the fight against tooth decay

The Ontario Dental Association applauds the efforts of Bob Delaney, MPP Mississauga-Streetsville, to bring community water fluoridation to discussion in the Ontario Legislature today.

Dentists around the world, and in particular in Ontario, have long recognized the oral health benefits of fluoridation of municipal drinking water. It is a cost-effective and economical means of preventing dental caries to everyone in the community. Community water fluoridation in the right amount is both safe and effective.

March 5, 2015 – March is Nutrition Month. Ontario's dentists remind people to eat a nutritious and balanced diet, because healthy eating has a direct impact on an individual's oral health.
The Ontario Dental Association supports the Dietitians of Canada's Eating 9 to 5! campaign dedicated to helping Canadians eat well at work. The campaign targets the times of the day when eating healthy might not be so easy, encouraging people to combat rushed mornings; improve choices at meetings, events and in the workplace; revive lunchtime; fight the mid-day slump; and manage commuter cravings.

 Ontario Dentists Support Changes to Smoke-Free Ontario Act

Toronto - The Ontario Dental Association (ODA) supports today’s move by the Ontario government to strengthen the Smoke-Free Ontario Act to protect people of all ages, and young people in particular, from the harmful effects of tobacco.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care today announced new regulations under the Act which will prohibit smoking on restaurant patios, playgrounds and certain other public spaces effective January 1, 2015. It will also be illegal to sell tobacco products on university and college campuses.
